[sws_pullquote_left] The goal of theology is the worship of God. The posture of theology of is on one’s knees. The mode of theology is repentance. Sinclair Ferguson [/sws_pullquote_left]
Theology is not the favorite subject of the masses. Sadly it is not a favorite subject among many Christians. This lack of interest has led to much of the confusion and many of the problems that exists in today’s church.
Why is this true? Simply because as R.C. Sproul says “The subject matter of theology proper is God.” Therefore to be ignorant of theology or to ignore theology is to ignore God! It is to be ignorant of who God is, what his character is like, what he has done for us, and what are his expectations for us.
R.C. Sproul writes in Grace Unknown [sws_grey_box box_size="630"] “Perhaps no doctrine has greater bearing on all other doctrines than the doctrine of God. How we understand the nature and character of God himself influences how we understand the nature of man, who bear’s God’s image; the nature of Christ, who works to satisfy the Father; the nature of salvation, which is effected by God; the nature of ethics, the norms of which are based on God’s character; and a myriad of other theological considerations, all draw on our understanding of God.” [/sws_grey_box]
Thousands of professing believers sing worship songs with lyrics such as “I want to know you more” – yet they never engage in the study of theology, in the study of the One whom they claim to want to know more about.
Theology is not a dry dusty subject, rather it is the study of the mot incredible, awesome Divine Being who has graciously revealed himself to us. I hope you join me as we study our Great God!
