Pastor Craig’s most recent sermon on Sunday here at Grace Community Church was all about the glory of God. Personally, I am so thankful God has been teaching more about His glory! Even in premarital counseling, our most recent session had us reflecting on God’s glory as it will apply to marriage.
Though our sermons have been in John 11 lately, Pastor pulled our attention to Exodus 33 and 34 (where God gives Moses the 10 Commandments). There, Moses boldly asks G0d, “Please show me your glory.” To which the Lord replies, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The LORD.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.” (Exodus 33:18-19 ESV)
Consider the Lord’s answer to Moses. God said, I will make my goodness pass before you and proclaim before you my name. We must pause and note that, yes, initially it is shocking that Moses – the guy who witnessed God bring a host of plagues to Egypt and part the Red Sea before his eyes – was asking to see more of God’s glory. But, as God is ever so patient with us, the Lord still answered Moses. Did you catch the response? God’s answer was that in revealing Himself through His attributes, God does reveal glory.
The question is: how are you responding to the glory that God has revealed Have you given much thought to the weight of glory recently? I would encourage you to set aside some time today and reflect on the glory of God. Exodus 33 and 34 is a great place to start.
