I wish you could have heard Pastor Craig’s sermon on Sunday! What a great proclamation of Jesus and the Gospel! Leading up to Christmas Pastor Craig is bringing our congregation through several passages in the Bible which anticipate the coming of Christ. Yesterday’s sermon was from the those familiar verses in Isaiah 9, which call Jesus Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
One element of Jesus that gets lost when we rattle off a list of names in Christmas-themed Scripture readings or carols is that Jesus the Christ IS God. God the Father sent to us God the Son. Have you thought that the little baby we celebrate around Christmas held the unlimited power of God? Sweet baby Jesus was all-knowing, all-powerful, all-glorious even held in the arms of his Mother.
As you prepare your heart for Christmas, don’t miss the Lordship of Christ.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
(Isaiah 9:6-7 ESV)
