Moving forward in 2013 as a church in Berea, KY
In our sermon on Sunday we reminded ourselves of our vision. We argued that our vision has a redemptive theme and therefore we need to see a redemptive God. We looked at Revelation 5 and were pointed to Jesus the purchaser of our redemption. We strive to be Christ-Centered, Gospel-Focused, and Missions-Oriented because this is the big story of the Bible.
Because Jesus is the Worthy Redeemer we can be centered on Him and His good news and take the good news to those who need it.
This scene in heaven, from Revelation 5, is striking. There seems to be despair because there was no one found worthy to break the seals and open the scroll. Then the Lamb comes forward and all fears are assuaged. He is worthy because He is the redeemer. They were impressed with the Lamb and His work of redemption they burst forth in praise. I imagine in this vision there were people from every tribe, language, nation and people. This scene put to shame the diversity we claim to have on earth many times. Praise emanates from heaven because of what Jesus has done.
Do you think this was contagious? I wonder if anyone asked what all the hubbub is about. The person answers Jesus is here and He is worthy to break the seals and reveal to us God’s plan for all history. The questioner hears the answer and proceeds to break forth into praise.
What if we were so impressed with our Savior and Lord this would happen? What if we proclaimed the good news of His redemption with such joy that it was almost contagious? We can do this because we have been redeemed. As we center our church upon Jesus and focus on His good news of the gospel we can proclaim it with such joy and passion it will be contagious.
I don’t know about you but I could not resist something like that. As we enter 2013 we can be centered on Jesus. We can focus even more on the good news of the gospel. And as we do it we can proclaim it with such passion and joy all to bring redemption to those who need it. Won’t you join me on this journey? It will be the hardest most delightful thing you will ever do. But I can promise this; it will be the most rewarding and joyful thing you will ever do. May Christ be exalted and his redemption proclaimed through Grace Community Church this coming year and for many years to come.
