The month of March is already upon us. Hopefully that means that warm weather and green grass are not far behind! Nothing like spring time in Berea!
But something far more important that the coming of warm weather and green grass will also take place in March and that is Easter.
Easter is a special day for those who have been redeemed by Christ. It marks a very important event in the life of Christ. An event so important that if it had not happened, well you wouldn’t be reading this right now.
Of course the event I’m referring to is the resurrection. That’s what Easter really is a celebration of the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Without the resurrection there would be no Easter because there would be nothing to celebrate.
Over the few weeks I’m going to explore the significance of Easter for us as Christians. Not surprisingly the world has lost sight of what the true meaning of Easter is. To the unbelieving world Easter is nothing more than eggs and chocolate bunnies and maybe one of the few times during the year that they will attend church to show off their new clothes.
But for believers it is and must be so much more than that! It is a time of great joy and celebration.
The Dictionary of Christianity in America describes Easter as “an annual celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s a time to celebrate the victory that Christ won through His death, burial and resurrection. Which by the way those words make up the essential truths of the Gospel.
Paul wrote in I Corinthians 15
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Easter Sunday is a celebration of victory! Easter Sunday is an annual reminder that Jesus Christ has conquered our greatest enemy – death!
Think about that, the enemy that you and I fear the most has been conquered meaning we no longer have to fear it.
But that victory includes all of our other enemies as well! Next to death what do you fear the most?
- Your past? At the cross Jesus took care of that as well
- Your failure? Already dealt with!
- Your defeats? Jesus has turned them into victory!
Wow! Do you see why Easter is time of joy and celebration? Don’t wait until Easter Sunday to begin to think about the resurrection and what Jesus accomplished on that day. Take some time all during this month to meditate on the wonderful truth that you – if you are disciple of Christ – you are already a victor, in fact the bible says you are a “super- conqueror”!
Why not enjoy the victory that is yours?
