Sunday’s Sermon

Missions offering Grace Community Church in Berea Ky

The sermon for this week is on the sermon page. There were some issues recording it and we have provided the manuscript. The sermon is from First Peter 1:22-2:9 looking at the subject of redeemed to proclaim. This is part of our Acts1Eight Sunday’s we do once a month to focus on discipleship, evangelism and missions. We do these to learn from scripture God’s mission as we work as a church in Berea, KY.

GRIT Preview

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for their participation with the GRIT preview on Monday. It went very well and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

The slides that we used on Monday are included here I hope you all enjoy them. I am looking forward to moving forward with GRIT as a church as we use it to teach the Word of God in Berea, KY.

Acts1Eight

Missions offering Grace Community Church in Berea KySunday is our next Acts1Eight Sunday. We will be learning from First Peter that as Christians we are redeemed to proclaim the praises of God. Evangelism is simply proclaiming what God has done in Christ, which is proclaiming His praises.

It is important for us to take heed to was Peter writes when we look to reach Berea, KY as a church. If you need a place this weekend to worship we would love for you to join us.  I am looking forward to learning together from God’s word this Sunday.

GRIT Preview

Just a quick reminder for everyone the GRIT preview is this Monday at 7:30. Let’s get as many people to be a part of this as we can. I am looking forward to any suggestions you all may have. It is important that we think this through as a church since we want to use this a tool for evangelism to effectively reach Berea KY.   If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Think Christianly: Part Three

tc

We will continue our review of Think Christianly. In the last post we took a look at part one: Understanding Our Intersection. In this post we will take a look at part two: Preparing to Engage, and we will cover chapters 4 and 6 and we will do another post on part two and post that tomorrow. This one was lengthier than I thought it would be, but there is a lot in there.

In order to prepare to engage we must realize that everyone has a worldview. A worldview is simply the way a person views the world around them and what they make of it. Everyone has a worldview whether they realize it or not, and whether or not they realize they cultivated it. Most people do not have a worldview that is formed by reading a textbook, as is pointed out in the book, but by what they take in around them.

A worldview tackles life’s ultimate questions. Questions on God, ultimate reality, knowledge (epistemology, how do we know what we know and what is knowledge, ethics, and human nature. These are all components of a worldview and will shape how a person thinks about all of life Read More→

Think Christianly: Part Two

tc

I will continue my review of Think Christianly and we will look at Part one of the book. I will attempt to not make this an overview merely of what the book says, if you are looking for that I would encourage you to just read the book itself. Although at times overview will be pertinent. I just want to cover sections that helped me the most, and some questions that were raised.

Part one is all about understanding the intersection we find ourselves where faith meets culture. Whether we as Christians would like to admit this or not culture does matter. In order to interact and think Christianly within our culture we need to have a firm grasp on what culture is. In the book culture is simply define as “what people make of the world” (32). We as Christians must understand that we are not against culture but we work within culture. From the way Jonathan Morrow defines culture I would say you could also call this a worldview, which is a way people strive to make sense of the world.
