More Simple Church Challenges

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

In an earlier article Challenges in Transitioning To the Simple Church I mentioned some of the challenges that we have faced in moving from the traditional church or the institutional church to the house church or the simple church.

One of the benefits of a house church is that everyone can be (should be) an active participant.  In the traditional church setting the amount of participation is limited to taking part in the corporate singing. But in a house church setting it should be easier for everyone to take part, to be an active participant.

Notice I said it should be easier for everyone to take part.  But this has to be conveyed to people.  Remember for those who are new to a house church/simple church they have for the most part been a spectator every Sunday morning.  Don’t expect that to change overnight.  In making the transition from the traditional church to the simple church you must practice patience, a lot of patience or you will quickly experience quite  a bit of frustration.

How can you get those attending the house church to take part, to move from being a spectator to participator?

The place to begin is by going back to the Scriptures and studying how the Scriptures addresses the issue.  Once you have completed your study then you must begin to teach that, and give people opportunities to actually participate.

I’ll be addressing these issues in greater detail later.

The Journey So Far

For all of us who made the move to a house church it was quite a change.  Some of us had been literally born and raised in the traditional church setting.  The idea of meeting in a home isn’t new in fact many churches get started that way.  But when you’ve never really experienced it before it can be a little unsettling.  Read the rest of this entry »
